About the Jam
Velum Fermentation, a brewery in Pittsburgh's South Side neighborhood, hosts two regular bluegrass jam circles — an all-levels acoustic jam and a fast jam for more experienced pickers. Both are open to all acoustic stringed instruments, and both happen monthly in the taproom.
The all-levels jam is exactly what it sounds like: a welcoming circle where players of every skill level can pull up a chair, call a tune, and join in. If you're newer to jamming, this is the one to start with. The vibe is relaxed, the tempos are comfortable, and the emphasis is on having fun and learning together.
The fast jam is for players looking to push themselves. Tempos are quicker, the repertoire goes deeper, and participants are expected to take breaks and hold steady time at speed. Less experienced players are welcome to sit in and listen — there's a lot to learn from watching a hot circle — but the goal is to keep the music driving.

The Venue
Velum Fermentation is located on Jane Street in Pittsburgh's South Side. The brewery has its own parking lot and there's street parking around the venue. Monday nights are Velum's "Brew Crew" mug club night — members get $4 beers.
